Tamzene, who studied on our Popular Music course, is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Cromarty in the Scottish Highlands. First discovered busking on the streets of Inverness, Tamzene has since graced some of the biggest and best stages, including performances at TRNSMT Festival and King Tuts in Glasgow and supporting Adele in London’s Hyde Park.

The 24th edition of the Specsavers Scottish Music Awards took place at the Barrowland Ballroom on 5 November, hosted by broadcaster and presenter Edith Bowman. This annual event is one of the most celebrated nights in the Scottish events calendar, bringing together some of the biggest names in Scottish music and raising funds for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.

Ahead of the awards, Tamzene shared, “It’s such an honour to be nominated for the VEGA Rising Star Award and I’m so excited to be performing at the Scottish Music Awards, particularly as it’s raising money for the incredible music therapy work of Nordoff Robbins. To see the artists that have been nominated early in their careers is insane and it’s hugely encouraging to be in such great company.”

Following the event, Tamzene tweeted that winning the VEGA Rising Star Award was “an incredible honour” and “a moment I will never forget.”

Other winners on the night included Lewis Capaldi, Sir Rod Stewart and Paolo Nutini. The Specsavers Outstanding Achievement in Music Award went to Sir Rod, who also performed live at the ceremony.
