After 2 years of online Summer Schools, we are delighted to announce that our Summer Academy will be returning to Leeds in 2022! We can't wait to once again welcome students to the conservatoire for a week of progressive training.
Our Summer Academy offers students who are about to enter Year 13 the opportunity to attend a five-day series of classes and experiences at Leeds Conservatoire. Students will build confidence and skills, working with like-minded people and experience a taste of conservatoire education. The course will run from 1 August - 5 August 2022 at Leeds Conservatoire, and students who complete the Summer Academy and go on to successfully apply to an undergraduate course at Leeds Conservatoire will receive a reduction of 8 UCAS tariff points in the UCAS tariff points required for entry.
Karen Gourlay, Head of Leeds Junior Conservatoire, expressed her excitement for the upcoming Summer Academy - "The Summer Academy is an inspirational week. It allows students in year 12 to get a taste of what it is like to study at a conservatoire and introduces them to different options for study that they may never have considered. There are so many light bulb moments of discovery, realising that there are lots of areas you can choose to study and a diverse range of careers in the industry. The social side is important too; there is nothing quite like meeting and collaborating with like-minded people who share your love of music and the performing arts."
This year there will be three strands to our Summer Academy: Theatre, Production and Performance. All three strands will culminate in a showcase for family and friends.
Theatre
Our theatre strand will allow students to experience high-level training introducing them to conservatoire study. The course explores an exciting range of classes and techniques, including acting, voice, performance, audition preparation, preparing for higher education applications and auditions and more.

Production
Our music production strand will provide students with the opportunity to produce, record and make music introducing them to current industry techniques.
Practical skills and knowledge will be supported by workshops in which the tutors will explore and discuss both the technical and creative aspects of music production.

Performance
Our performance strand will support a wide range of musical interests, including classical, jazz, and popular music. Students will experience a range of workshops introducing them to the skills needed for the new digital music industry, composition, theory, ensemble and solo performance, and how to prepare for higher education applications and auditions.
