Proof of Concept Funding

From the Employability & Enterprise Team

Do you have an idea for a new project or product that isn't covered by any of our other schemes? A business concept that you want to try out, but you're not able to raise the funds to do it on your own? We are able to provide ‘proof of concept’ funding for new projects or business concepts, matching your own investment up to a maximum of £250 (assuming a £500 total spend). We can also offer bespoke help and advice to try and get your project off the ground.

Who is this for?

The Proof of Concept Funding Scheme is open all year round to current second year, third year and postgraduate students, across all pathways at Leeds Conservatoire.

You may have an idea for an event - for example a club night or gig that needs some extra budget to get it off the ground. Or a busines idea you'd like to try, or a one-off project such as releasing a compilation album or making a film. The Proof of Concept scheme is here to support these projects with the money they need to get them moving.

Application process
  • You are required to submit a funding application.
  • Ensure your submission is clear and detailed to be in with a chance of having your request approved.
  • Please keep in mind that you will be working with professionals, so acting professionally yourself will be expected.
  • Please remember we will only fund up to £250, based on a total cost of £500.
  • You will be notified shortly as quickly as possible as to whether or not we can support your submission.
Funding parameters
  • Please only apply to fund one project.
  • Please remember we will only fund up to £250, based on a total cost of £500.
  • Once produced, we will require a high quality version of the product / evidence of the project that went ahead (as applicable). We will only transfer funds on the receipt of professional quotes or invoices.

What we can support:

  • Starting a business including costs of equipment and resources.
  • Running an event (one off or regular).
  • In some cases, ad-hoc projects that do not fit under the categories of any of our other funding schemes (reviewed on a case by case basis)

What we can’t support:

  • Any further, higher or postgraduate qualification.
  • Audition fees for postgraduate studies at Leeds Conservatoire or elsewhere.
  • Activities where the core beneficiaries are not Leeds Conservatoire students.
  • Travel or subsistence.
  • Conference / short course / seminar fees – apply for this through The Experience Fund
  • Photography, Video and Merchandise – apply for this through the Subsidised Product Scheme.
  • Retrospective activity – ie for costs that have already been incurred/project activity that has already taken place.
  • Those who have already received support from the Employability and Enterprise team this academic year.
