James Moffatt is a Film Composer, Musician, Record Producer & Writer who has worked on scores for a number of award-winning international films. 

As a professional Film Composer, James has composed scores to numerous award-winning international films including the Hollywood feature length biopic/documentary ‘Mansfield 66/67’, working alongside Academy-Award and BAFTA winning, supervising sound editor, Ben Wilkins (Star Trek, Whiplash, The Sopranos). The films and film scores James has worked on have been featured in numerous press publications including Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone Magazine, Vice, The Hollywood Reporter and many more.

As a Musician and Producer, James has worked with many bands and artists and is currently producing, and performing with, Leeds-based artist, Cat Una, who was recently recognised as BBC Introducing Artist of the Week. Her debut album is set for release in 2018 on MonoMyth Records. Additionally, James has worked with the likes of Ken Scott (Beatles, David Bowie) and Ray Russell (John Barry Seven, A Touch of Frost) in numerous recording sessions. His experience as a composer, musician and producer help define the interdisciplinary working practices of music practitioners.

As an academic James was the recipient of the prestigious and highly competitive Arts and Humanities Research Council funding through the North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership - which was open to applicants across the EU. This Studentship comprises of funding through a financial grant, supervision at The University of Liverpool and access to training and skill development which will see James investigate 'The Evolving Role of the Composer in the Contemporary Film-Music Industry through Case Study and Practice-Led Approaches', in pursuit of a PhD.

James will be composing live industry film scores, in the UK, Europe and US, documenting the process and interviewing high-profile film and music industry professionals to contextualise his research. The findings of such research will help gain understanding of the current environment of composition for media production and help governing bodies, as well as participating creative individuals, better understand their craft and the impact of current, and any future, industrial transformations. James was also awarded 1st Class BA Honours in Music Production & Performance before receiving a Master's Degree with Distinction in Music for the Moving Image.
