Biography

Since completing his studies at the Royal College of Music, Jonny Enright has worked as a trombonist with many artists, including Elbow, Gregory Isaacs, Max Romeo, The Abyssinians, Joe Bataan, Jack Costanzo, Kathryn Williams, Tony Christie, Peggy Seeger, Lo Fidelity Allstars, Bootsy Collins, Badly Drawn Boy and his own band, Grupo X.

Jonny’s songs for Grupo X have had airplay across the BBC from DJs including Lauren Laverne, Huey Morgan, Gilles Peterson and Craig Charles.  His tracks feature on Grupo X’s five album releases, have been licensed to many compilations around the world and used to promote brands such as Lilt and Nokia, and in shows on MTV Miami.  

"Jonny's Bugalu" was licensed for the DSW Shoes TV and radio commercial, airing across the USA in 2007.

"Sunshine and You" was licensed by West Ham United FC to promote their new signing for the 2018-19 season, Felipe Anderson, in videos across social media

Jonny has recently composed and arranged for jazz projects, The Human Revolution Orchestra and The Solomon Gundy Band.

Jonny appeared in an episode of the Stephen Poliakoff-directed BBC drama, Dancing on the Edge, in 2013. He performed on the soundtrack and appeared in the film adaptation of Booker prize nominee, Sarah Water's, The Little Stranger, directed by Oscar-nominated Lenny Abrahamson, released in September 2018.

Jonny has been a jazz examiner for ABRSM since 2001.

Jonny’s teaching is student-centred.  He has a flexible approach, in terms of pace and method, which works well for students with a broad range of abilities. He extends high achievers and gifted students by challenging them to be innovative and creative.
