Leeds Junior Conservatoire FAQs 2022/23

When will I receive my timetable?

Timetables will be sent out as soon as they are finalised which is usually the first week in September.

When does the term start?

All term dates can found on the Term Dates page of our website.

When will I get my ID card?

You will collect your ID card from your tutor on the next in person session.

Which course shall I choose?

Courses are age specific and ability assessed, so have a look at the different course pages on the Leeds Junior Conservatoire section of the website. If you are still unsure, please email junior@lcm.ac.uk.

LJC Experience students will automatically move into LJC Performance after their 12th birthday. If you are 11 years old on the 1 September and your 12th birthday is in October for example, you will stay in LJC Experience until the proceeding year. Students in this situation are timetabled with students of similar ability and age.

Will I receive an instrumental lesson?

Unless you have chosen the LJC Target or Performance+ programme, you will not receive an instrumental lesson as part of your main timetable. However, we do offer 1-1 lessons through our Additional 1-1 programme where students receive online lessons from our tutors.

When will I hear if I’m successful in my bursary application?

The deadline for bursary applications is 22 July. We will review all applications and email a result of the amount we are able to award by the 22 August.

If you would like to apply for a bursary but didn't choose to apply for one on your completed enrolment form, please let us know by emailing Junior@lcm.ac.uk.

How do I pay?

You can either pay in full or by monthly direct debit.

If you would like to pay by direct debit, you will need to complete and return the direct debit form by Saturday 27 August.

If you would like to pay in full, we will send out the Leeds Conservatoire payment details.

What happens if I change my mind about musicianship options?

We understand that people’s choices change, so please email Junior@lcm.ac.uk with any requests after the enrolment form has been completed. Although not guaranteed, we will try our best to change your timetable.

What websites will we be using?

As well as the Virtual Learning Environment, Space, we may use the following websites.

Which browser should I use?

Chrome or Firefox are the recommended browsers for computers. Safari may work, but needs a change to the settings to view videos (see the videos don’t play below).

For mobile devices Chrome is the most stable. Safari may work, but needs a change to the settings to view videos (see the videos don’t play below)

I can't log in

If you are having problems logging in, please check you are on the correct web page. This is the solution to 99% of log in problems.

ljc.leedsconservatoire.ac.uk.

The site should say Space: Leeds Junior Conservatoire

Please note there is another installation of Space specifically for HE students. LJC students do not have access to this

The videos don't play

If the videos don't play, try using either Chrome or Firefox, and if you are asked to log in to Panopto select Short Courses.

Alternatively use the direct link to the video on the page, and when asked to log in select Short Courses.

If you want to use Safari follow the instructions on this LJC Space page. https://ljc.leedsconservatoire.ac.uk/mod/page/view.php?id=11329. The lower part of the page is for mobile devices.

The Teams meeting link doesn't load properly

You need to download the software (it is free), but you do not need to create an account to join the meeting.

To join a meeting once you have installed Microsoft Teams;

  1. Click on the meeting link on the lesson page.
  2. Click 'Allow' when you are asked, 'Do you want to all this page to open "Microsoft Teams"?'
  3. You can then enter the meeting as before adding your name as a guest.

No login details are required.

How do I check which week on the rota we are on?

You can find which week it is by logging into Space.

I don't know what my timetable is

Contact Junior@lcm.ac.uk or ask us when you sign in on a Saturday.

Ask your parent/carer to get in touch with us. We are very happy to go over this.

I can't hear any sound on my computer/device

If you can’t hear any sound when using your computer/device, try these solutions:

  1. Check you don’t have any headphones already plugged in
  2. Check you’re not connected to any Bluetooth speakers or headphones
  3. Check you have the correct audio output settings by visiting ‘Settings’ on PC and ‘System Preferences’ on Mac.
