David is from South Shields in the North East of England. He took up the cornet at a young age and played for a local brass band (Bolden Colliery). Aged 14 he began trumpet lessons with Richard Martin (Royal Northern Sinfonia) and was a member of the Young Northern Sinfonia and Northern Junior Philharmonic Youth Orchestras.

After gaining a place at the Royal Northern College of Music David studied with Murray Greig (Opera North), John Miller (formerly of the Philharmonia) and John MacMurray (then Principal Trumpet, Halle Orchestra). He also enjoyed classes and masterclasses with many visiting tutors. While at the RNCM David was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra for several years and began working professionally.

Since graduating from the RNCM in 2003 David has enjoyed a busy and varied freelance career, playing for all of the major orchestras in the north of England, as well as work further afield.
