Staff support and training

We provide guidance to all staff on creating accessible content.

Staff training and awareness of digital accessibility best practice is incredibly important to us at Leeds Conservatoire, and we are emphasising the development of staff knowledge in this area through:

  • Digital accessibility awareness initiatives
  • Support materials
  • Staff training
  • Accessible templates for digital documents

We are also providing guidance on the use of accessible language.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

Our accessibility roadmap shows how and when we plan to improve accessibility of our systems, services and content.

This roadmap will be updated as we continue our work on improving digital accessibility at Leeds Conservatoire.

Complete an extensive audit of our websites, systems and content

We will complete and extensive audit of all our identified websites, systems and their content against the WCAG 2.1 AA standards.

We will complete this by: January 2020

The results of this audit will be:

  • A detailed and reliable report of the current accessibility standards of our websites, systems and their content.
  • A list of actions that we will undertake to improve the accessibility of our systems to better meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards

Evaluate existing systems and their accessibility features

We will explore the functionality and options within our existing systems to see if there are services we can use to improve their accessibility. We will also contact third-party suppliers of systems to gain their accessibility roadmap.

We will complete this by: March 2020

The results of this evaluation will be:

  • A detailed and reliable report of the accessibility related functionality of our systems
  • An understanding of how the accessibility of our procured third-party systems will improve
  • Actions that we can undertake alongside the outputs of the audit

Create and publish an accessibility action plan

We will create and publish an accessibility action plan that contains actions from our audit and system evaluations. It will also contain actions related to staff training on accessibility issues found within the audit.

This will be reported to our Equality, Diversion and Inclusion (EDI) committee and Executive Leadership

We will update our accessibility statements with our action plan and specific dates for completion.

We will complete this by: April 2020
